Legislative Call-to-Actions
Tan Tax
Because little was accomplished at President Obama's Health Forum yesterday, it is now more likely than ever that the President and Congressional Democrats will forge ahead to pass some form of healthcare reform legislation without any Republican support.
The worst scenario for our industry would be for the House of Representatives to approve the Senate version of the bill, which passed the Senate last Christmas Eve and contains the Tan Tax. The President would woo reluctant Democrats in the House into passing the Senate bill with a promise to "fix" lingering issues through a "Budget Reconciliation" bill.
Under Senate rules, "Reconciliation" can not be filibustered and a simple Senate majority of 51 votes would be all that is required.
We must keep the Tan Tax on Congress' radar! If we don't, legislators will assume we don't care anymore.
This week, we generated an additional 14,000 emails. Good progress, but we have to maintain the pressure. If you have already sent an email to Congress, you don't have to do so again, but please continue to spread the word. Recruit one additional person. Help Defeat Florida's TEENAGE TAN BAN
The Indoor Tanning Association is working to defeat two bills pending in Tallahassee that would have a very negative impact on your business and take away a very basic right of parents -- the right to decide whether or not a teen can suntan indoors. H. 205 and S. 430 would ban all teens under the age of 16 from tanning indoors even with a parent’s permission!
The state of Florida wants to BAN TEENAGE TANNING UNDER THE AGE OF 17...16 and Under children will not be able to Tan - even with a Parent's consent!
This is ridiculous! We live in the SUNSHINE STATE - the state of FLORIDA makes MOST of their money from TOURISM -an industry that invites people (families with teen age children and younger) into the SUN - 365 days a year!
They want to take the decision AWAY FROM PARENTS! Florida Tanning
Regulations ALREADY require salons to get PARENTAL CONSENT under the age
of 18! And require the parent to stay on the premises if the child is under 14!!
Based on our experiences in other states, we know that when business owners and citizens, who would be affected by such an unnecessary intrusion of government in their daily lives, let the legislature know they are adamantly opposed to a bill, we can stop it.
This will send an email to your state representative and senator opposing this outrageous legislation.
It's EASY. Once you are on the site, you can either personalize the letter already present in the message field or send it as is. Don’t forget to enter your name, email address, phone number and organization (business name). The program directs the email to the proper offices.
