Indoor Tanning FAQ's
"Let’s Shed ‘Sun’ Light on the Subject"
Questions? We have Answers!
Why do we always hear that tanning is bad?
The almighty dollar. The fear of the sun is a multi-billion dollar industry led by huge special interests that conduct most of the research on this topic and promote it as well. Lobbyists for pharmaceutical firms that sell billions of dollars of sunscreens and anti-sun cosmetics have muddied the issue by overstating the risks of sun exposure.
Conversely, there is no major industry except the indoor tanning industry that makes money by promoting the positive effects of sunshine. And the indoor tanning industry consists of smaller companies that do not match the marketing power of the multi-billion dollar "sun scare" industry. Visit
Does tanning cause skin cancer?
Saying that sunlight is harmful and therefore should be avoided is as misleading as saying that water causes drowning, and therefore we should avoid water.
Professional indoor tanning facilities promote balance and educate their patrons about the potential risks of UV overexposure. Consumers are required to read and sign consent forms that include warnings about potential eye damage, photoaging and skin cancer. Warning labels are found on every tanning device and almost always in other general areas. Professional tanning facilities require parental consent for teenagers who tan even though most states don't require this measure.
While this serious approach to caution is just good sense, it needs to be noted that understanding the risks of UV exposure is not as straightforward as some suggest. Consider: Research has not established a "causal" relationship Between Melanoma and Indoor Tanning.

Why do most Beauty magazines condemn tanning?
MONEY!!! A recent study revealed that the average Beauty magazine receives approximately $1 million in advertising from billion-dollar sunscreen related companies every issue. These "sunscare" advertisers are making billions of dollars by scaring you out of the sun. If the Beauty magazines didn’t support their "sun scare" agenda, would they receive their advertising dollars?
No wonder Beauty magazine's work so hard to keep us in the dark!
Is tanning indoors smarter than outdoor tanning?
Definitely! Our customers are exposed to a scientifically controlled dosage of ultraviolet light carefully formulated to tan you with a minimal risk of sunburn. That kind of control is virtually impossible outdoors, where variables such as seasonality, time of day, location, geography, weather conditions, altitude and the Earth’s thinning ozone layer make sunburn much more likely.
Because sunburn is a main risk factor for skin damage, it is very definitely smarter to tan with the professionally trained staff at this Smart Tan Salon.
